March Meeting Notes

Along with the recent Florida Emerald Coast Quilt Retreat & Show, the Silver Threads Quilt Guild meeting this month worked wonderfully together as part of celebrating March 16—Worldwide Quilting Day.

See if you can spot one of our members in the following photo of the Fresh Produce models in the quilt retreat and show’s fashion show.

President: Carol Stearns

Our March guild meeting was sew much fun!  And I was thrilled to see 27 pretty log cabin blocks come back for the President’s challenge! If you still have your fabric, you can still make your block and bring it to the next meeting. Jeannette Alexander took nine of the blocks home to sew them into a quilt using white sashing. I have strips of the umbrella fabric that can be cut into cornerstones for the sashing to pull it together. I need two more volunteers to sew this easy quilt top together for charity!

This month’s President’s challenge block is the Shamrock and you can find the online line for the free pattern at the end of this post! Thank you so much for participating and making this a fun year.  I have some other ideas in my head for future President’s challenge blocks!

So far, we have 20 sewers signed up for the Projects to Go class. This is a fun and easy tote to make, and I look forward to spending the day with my quilting family on April 20 at the Moose Lodge. Call in for a reservation as there is still room for a few more folks!

Happy Sewing!

March’s chenille program has been rescheduled. In its place, Jessie pitched in to share some of her beautiful quilts and the importance of providing labels for your quilts.

Guild members were fascinated with the way Jessie incorporated a 10-minute block pattern. She recommended the following book:

Jessie explained the way her quilt labels have evolved over time and how she now uses freezer paper to print her label on fabric. You can find a link to a tutorial for this process in the Resources section below.

On the slate for next month is a presentation on threads and needles by Margie of Margie’s fame and her daughter.

Happy birthday to our beautiful ladies of March!

National Craft Month

March has brought us the quilt retreat and show, Worldwide Quilting Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and our very own guild meeting. Just to continue the wonders of this month, don’t forget that March is also National Craft Month—may it all bring you enough fun and laughter to keep you smiling all year.
