March 2014 Newsletter

Happy March to everyone! We have an amazing meeting planned for March 13 at 6:30 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Our speaker is coming from Pensacola and her topic and biography are below.

“Be Yourself Because Everyone Else is Taken”

Karen Williamson from Nana Girl Quilt blog will be presenting a trunk show of about 20 quilts that document her quilting journey from high school through the present. Finding her own way has led her on a wonderful journey. In the last few years, it’s led her to be a guild program speaker, a workshop instructor, a retreat leader, a quilt show judge, a contributor to three best-selling books, and she will soon be published in a magazine. Her goal is to encourage everyone to find that place as a quilt maker to be themselves, because everyone else really is taken.

This is a special treat for us to hear from Karen and to see her amazing quilts. We’ll have Karen speak to us first and then have our business meeting afterward.

Don’t forget to bring your round robin blocks and your block of the month squares to share with us. See you at the meeting.

Charity Report

We are celebrating National Quilting Day with a Sit-and-Sew for Charity on March 15 at the Moose Lodge on Greenacres Road. The event will run from 9:00 to 2:00 with lunch provided if you sew a quilt for charity. We are seeking 2.5 inch strips from anyone willing to donate so that we can make our famous and easy quilt as you go STRIPPY quilts. Strips in lighter and brighter fabric or children’s prints are appreciated—also, any large pieces suitable for backing. We’ve also got pillowcase kits available.

This year’s STRIPPY QUILTS AS you GO is an Olympic event with prizes for the first three finishes. We also have door prizes for everyone and, of course, a yummy lunch of hamburgers or chicken strips. Please let Edith Bullock at know if you can attend or donate fabric.
