Silver Threads Quilt Guild – Meeting 8 MAY 2014 6:32PM. Meeting conducted by Carol Stearns, President.
Several tubs of fabric donated to guild , invited all to help themselves.
Carol asked those who brought their zigzag quilt from the mystery
workshop to display their quilts. She noted it’s a free Moda pattern that
will be linked on our blog.
Linda Frick displayed this month’s Ooh-rah block from QuiltersNewsletter.com
and displayed her block, done in red.
Honing your skills – Shirley Ringleb displayed how to use a strip tube
Carol displayed the next round, which is two strips, 2 ½
inches each, and a 4 ½ inch square in the corners. Then she drew names for
people to select the next round.
Program – Pam Martin asked 4 quilters to display their first and latest
quilts and tell a little about themselves. Thanks to Kathy Weathers, Edith
Bullock, Sherry Painter, and Pam Martin for sharing their quilting stories.
Show & Tell:
Carol showed a totebag (dark red & black) and a star/9-patch with pink
Sheila displayed the raffle quilt she won from the Pensacola quilt show.
Carolyn U. showed a dahlia corsage; a charity quilt in brick style on the
diagonal, a totebag, and a dark brown Dresden plate quilt.
Jeannie A. showed a baby quilt of alternating dark and light strips,
quilt-as-you-go, that won a blue ribbon in a Crestview show recently.
Edith showed a jungle baby quilt.
Kay H. made a quilt for her dad using layer cake blocks.
Addie showed her quilt from the Flying Needles retreat this year (chevron /
Valerie showed a small “houses” quilt made of 9-patch blocks; an embroidered
snowman quilt with bright blue & white sashing; and her 2013 retreat quilt
in vibrant colors.
Other Important information
Addie Lowry announced Flying Needles is having a Slash Your Stash workshop
quarterly and invited Silver Threads to joint them. June 21, 9am-5pm, at
the church across from the Niceville H.S. Also this year: Sep 20 and Nov
8. She also gave an early hint at next year’s retreat.
Carol announced the June “Trash to Treasure” meeting and birthday party.
(1) You can sell fabric or notions, whatever – keep it sewing related,
please – and you keep the money. You can buy one-half a table for the fee
of one yard of bright or kid-print fabric for our charity projects. (2)
Another table will have items from Jeannette Alexander’s donations – will
have donation tickets and a drawing for these items. Funds will go for our
outreach projects. (3) There will be a donation table – stuff you don’t
want but don’t want to sell. (4) Annual birthday party – guild will
