Silver Threads Quilt Guild – Meeting minutes, 10 Mar 2016
6:30 P.M. Meeting conducted by Pam Martin, president.
Pam reminded everyone of the Sit & Sew Saturday March 19 at the church, 9-3, potluck lunch. Also workshop (class) on Saturday April 16, $10 for member, $15 for non-member (book included).
Our Shop Hop will not happen, but we are able to participate in another guild’s Shop Hop on Saturday, May 14. Cost is $40, going to Ozark and Opp. First come first paid.
Membership Chair Patty Roof did birthdays. She also distributed membership cards this month, good for discounts through March 2017.
Lois Garrett discussed Sew News and Country Sampler.
Pam and Lois conducted drawings of items donated by local shops.
Pam did block of the month. Reminder block lottery pattern on blog and Facebook page. Bring in block, pay $1 to enter, winner gets all blocks. Cannot win again until pieced top is brought in. April block swap is a paper-pieced block, 4 smaller parts to make a larger 12.5 inch square, white background, bright colors. See blog for instructions. (Make 4 copies of pattern to do full block.)
VP Celeste shared “Quilt Tidbits” with everyone and had a Feb/Mar handout of tips. She displayed the top for the April workshop. Her number has changed (for directory) – now 850-217-0867.
Round Robin. Carol gave instructions for next round. Ten members showed current blocks. Pam conducted drawing for prize.
Laura announced she’d brought in blocks donated by an acquaintance – donator would like them made into quilts and donated to one of our charities. Also asked members who remembered former guild member Molly (she died several years ago) – Molly’s husband died earlier this month.
Pam announced she’d received a suggestion that everyone sit around tables instead of in rows. Discussion included labor intensive process to do the tables. Vote was to stay in rows, but we will try the table format next month.
Program: Lynda Richardson and Lynn Salsman. March is national quilting month; Lynda having 35% off sale all month. She discussed three major forms of quilts: medallion, applique, and patchwork. Members brought in old quilts and told the stories.
Lynn reminded everyone to bring their favorite notion to April meeting. She needs someone who can demonstrate the wedge ruler. Also next month’s challenge is Christmas – bring something Christmas theme you have made – preferably not “just” a quilt.
Lynda brought up 3 members to share how they started quilting.
Opportunity drawing door prizes.
Pam reminded everyone of Sit & Sew on March 16; Workshop on April 19; and bus shop hop.
Show & Tell.
