Leonard A. “Hutch” Hutcheson, age 77, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016, with his family by his side. He was born July 22, 1938 in Porterville, California to Claude and Cora Hutcheson. On his birthday in 1960, Hutch married Elaine M. Hohl. After four years in the Marine Reserves, Hutch went active duty in the United States Air Force where he served 24 years as a radio technician and in June of 1974 moved to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida where he retired in 1984. He and Elaine had four children and most of his free time with the boys during their younger years, involved scouting (Troop 510), teaching the boys wilderness survival skills(cooking, tracking, tying knots, hiking, canoeing, and identifying plants and animals), a part of their lives he truly enjoyed participating. He planted three gardens yearly, which was a hobby that not only kept him busy but provided food for his family. After retirement, he attended Vo-Tech to study Horticulture and then owned and operated Hutch-N-Son Lawn Maintenance for almost 14 years. Next, after his second retirement, he and Elaine became involved in the Pre 1940’s Reenactment, stitching together clothing and making supplies matching that time period, even learning to make quilts. Hutch used his quilting skills to make more than a dozen quilts annually, two for each member of his family and giving the remaining ones to friends and babies. Hutch volunteered his time with the Disaster Medical Assistant Team and the Medical Response Team doing what he enjoyed doing, cooking. According to Hutch,” cooking is the easiest thing in the world to do.” He and his friend Van, responded to the area hit by Hurricane Katrina serving grilled hamburgers and hotdogs to the hungry victims, which all loved their cooking and their friendship.
